In this case, one social media creator has combined two comfort food classics: chocolate chip cookies and pancakes.
Now, we know what you’re thinking… isn’t that just chocolate chip pancakes? Nope. It’s actually called the “Pookie,” a hybrid treat that’s already gotten 15.7 million views on social media. If you’re a breakfast and sweets lover, then this 10-minute pookie recipe will be right up your alley.
What Are Pookies?
The best part of a pancake is easily the texture. They’re fluffy, airy, and light. Chocolate chip cookies, on the other hand, are usually crispy on the edges and soft in the middle. Creator Katja Jurgenschellert of @kayoukitchen originally set out to bake a simple banana cookie, but ended up making a recipe with attributes of both a cookie and a pancake. The pookie was born.
In the Instagram caption, Jurgenschellert writes: “It all started when I wanted to make the easiest, fuss-free cookies. In testing the recipe, I accidentally made pookies, a mix between pancake and cookie.” The super simple recipe calls for just a handful of ingredients and a blender.

How To Make Pookies
As the original recipe is in European cooking measurements, we broke it down into cups and tablespoons. This recipe includes six basic ingredients: 1 ripe banana, 1/3 cup medium dark chocolate (classifying as any chocolate that contains 70% to 74% cacao), 1 egg, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 3/4 cup flour, and 1 teaspoon baking powder.
You can substitute maple syrup in place of the sugar or your chocolate of choice (like milk or semi-sweet chocolate). If you use chocolate chips instead of chocolate bars, note that they will not blend or melt inside the pookie as nicely.
Simply blitz all of the ingredients into a blender or food processor until fully combined, scoop the dough out into circles as you would a traditional chocolate chip cookie (with a spoon, since it has a liquidy consistency), and bake for eight minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Similar to both pancakes and cookies, wait until the batter turns golden brown around the edges and the center is puffy before taking them out of the oven.
The Best Way to Enjoy Pookies
Jurgenschellert served her pookies with a cup of foamed milk to upgrade the flavor—just dunk them like an Oreo and get to snacking. If you don’t feel like frothing milk, a regular cup will do just fine. One commenter even suggested cutting the pookies up and pouring milk over the top to turn it into a cereal. For a bit more of a sugar kick, you can even make an ice cream sandwich out of them by scooping chocolate or vanilla ice cream in between two pookies.
